Nobody thinks about backup until the computer won't turn on and forty years of family photos are inside it. I'd rather meet you before that day. A backup that runs by itself, to a small drive on your desk or to the cloud, costs very little and takes me about an hour to set up right.
If it's already too late and the computer is dead or the files are gone, call me before you do anything else. Often the drive is fine and the computer around it isn't, and the files come right off. Sometimes recovery software gets them back. And sometimes they're really gone, and I'll tell you that straight rather than charge you to find out slowly.
Setting up a backup can be done remotely. Recovering from a dead computer is a house call.
Both is best. A drive on the desk is fast and yours. Cloud protects against fire, theft, and the drive itself failing. I'll set up whichever fits how you live, and I'll keep it simple.
Probably not. Most of the time the drive inside is fine. Don't keep trying to turn it on. Call me.
Stop using the computer and call me. The less that happens on it before I look, the better the odds.
